Born
and educated in Romania Clarissa Boeriu, received her BA in Dance from the
National School of Arts, Choreography Department and she earned her Master
Degree in Philosophy/Pedagogy from the Babes-Bolyai
University, both in
Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Mrs. Boeriu went on to an illustrious carrier as a full Company member and then Principal dancer with the National Opera House of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She performed in all classical, neo-classical and modern ballet productions of the Theater, as well as in the Theater’s Opera productions. Her repertoire included: Swan Lake, Giselle, Coppelia, Carmen Suite, The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Don Quixote, Esmeralda, Cinderella, Paquita, The Miraculous Mandarin, Odyssea, Salome [Dance of the seven veils], Sheherazade, Four Seazon, Les Sylphides [Chopiniana], Bolero, Brincusi Atrilogy, Miorita, L’apres-midi d’un Faune, Poesis, Hansel and Gretel, Faust, Aida, Lakme, Traviata, Samson et Dalila, The Pearl Fishers and numerous Ballet Concert Pieces.
Clarissa Boeriu was a faculty member [1979-1983] of the National School of Arts, Choreography Department, Romania. At the age of 21 she was invited on the coaching team for the Romanian participants in the international ballet competitions Varna [Bulgaria] and Moscow [Russia]. Three students from her classes received fellowships at the Bolshoi Choreographic School, Moscow, Russia. In 1983 she became faculty member of the prestigious “Scuola di Ballo dell’Teatro dell’Opera”, the official School of the Rome Opera House , Italy. In Rome, she also held the position of principal ballet mistress/choreographer at the “Viva la Danza” Ballet Company, where she staged several full length ballets: Swan Lake, Giselle, Coppelia, Rondo Veneziano and choreographed Paquita, La Mer, Four Seasons, Carmen Suite and several Ballet Concert pieces. Since 1989 Mrs. Boeriu is guest faculty of the prestigious Ballet San Jose [formerly Cleveland-San Jose Ballet].
In Italy, Mrs. Boeriu was invited as Lecturer at the European Center for Physical training Studies, Bologna, teaching theory and practical courses of folk dance from East European countries.
Mrs. Boeriu is the former Artistic Director/Choreographer of the Channel Islands Ballet [1992-1998] and co-founder and Artistic Director/Choreographer [1999-2001] of the Ventura County Ballet Company. Her reputation in the world of dance attracted first-rate performers and choreographers in Ventura: Edward Ellison – Principal San Francisco Ballet, Anatoli Kusheruk – Principal Kiev and Bolshoi Ballet, Galina Mezentseva – Prima Ballerina Kirov Ballet, Alexander Greschenko – Principal Bolshoi Ballet, Yelena Poryvkina – Principal Bolshoi Ballet. In addition, the world renowned choreographer Dennis Nahat, Artistic Director of Ballet San Jose, choreographed “Raymonda – Wedding Celebration”.
Starting with 1993 she was the co-owner and Artistic Director of the Ballet Ventura School - now renamed All American Ballet School. The students she personally trained over the years were awarded scholarships to Summer programs, University Ballet programs, and received employment offers to leading State and Dance Companies around the world: Royal Danish Ballet, Munich Opera, Berlin Opera, Zurich Opera, New York City Ballet, Boston Ballet, Ballet San Jose, Ballet Met, Stuttgart Ballet, Cirque du Soleil, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem, Ohio Ballet, BYU Theatre Ballet, Butler University, Indiana University, UC Irvine, UCLA, and many others]. Currently, Mrs. Boeriu is the Artistic Director of the All American Ballet School and of the All American Ballet Company.
